Heal your past for a much better future

It’s only when we’re free from the ‘imprints’ of past hurts, that we realise just how much they were affecting us.

Today, we have a far better understanding of trauma and how it affects us emotionally, physically and psychologically (thanks to advances in neuroscience and psychology).  We now know that it’s not necessarily “what happened” that is significant.  Whether or not painful experiences continue to affect us, is largely due to how we processed the experience – where and how our brains ‘filed’ the experience at the time.

And so it’s not always the big ‘capital T’ traumas that continue to affect us.  Sometimes it’s the seemingly small things that we brush off as part of life that leave damage.

You can’t change your past… so what good is talking about it?

This is a great question – and to a certain extent I couldn’t agree more.

It’s been known for more than 20 years now (due to developments in neuroscience) that for some people talking about painful or traumatic experiences does not help.  In fact, for some people, talking and traditional counselling approaches can actually make things worse.

We are so fortunate to live in an age where scientific advances give us new understandings of how our brains and bodies work.  We have actual explanations of how, why and where we ‘save’ traumatic memories in our brain.  And – as importantly – we understand how to ‘file those experiences differently’ and resolve and recover from trauma.

To use a metaphor: We can easily move a file on a computer (or in a filing cabinet) from one folder into another.  To move a file, it’s not necessary to open and read it.  Hypno-psychotherapy is similar.  It is possible to resolve trauma ‘content free’ (which means not talking in detail about the painful things that have happened to you).  There are safe, gentle and evidence-based interventions that make it possible for those memories to be ‘filed’ differently in the brain so they no longer trigger the stress response.

Many people that I work with are surprised how quickly they feel better and experience positive changes in their life.  It is quite simply a joy to witness their release from painful past hurts.

What if I want to talk about it?

Of course, this is fine!  It’s just that you don’t have to, to feel better.  The choice is yours.

Flexibility is a key advantage of hypno-psychotherapy.

How do I know if this program is right for me?

We are all unique in how we process our pain.  As humans we are pretty resilient and not every difficult, painful or traumatic experience will “leave its mark”.  But where past hurts remain unresolved, there are certain ‘legacies’ that I frequently witness in my therapy room.  Some of these include:

  • Tolerating toxic friendships and relationships – and sabotaging or avoiding healthy ones
  • Never feeling ‘good enough’
  • Struggling with physical issues such as chronic pain or fatigue, poor sleep, or problems with skin, digestion, menstruation or fertility
  • Sabotaging success or feeling ‘stuck on a loop’ of one step forward/one step back
  • Avoiding things/people/situations
  • Disproportionate responses (looking back on certain comments/situations/events and recognising your reaction was ‘bigger’ than the situation merited)
  • Coping mechanisms that have now become a problem (such as issues with eating, alcohol, self-harm)

If you recognise any of the above, I so hope that you make this investment in yourself so that you can experience a far better present and future.

What can I expect?

You can expect a warm welcome and a safe, non-judgemental space.  I really mean it when I say that no problem is too big, too small or too embarrassing.  In terms of how you feel, you can expect to feel better: more in control, clearer, calmer, more confident and more engaged in the present.

Hypno-psychotherapy is an excellent intervention for safely and swiftly processing trauma.  Memories are ‘re-filed’ so they no longer trigger the anxiety response or unconsciously influence thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

We work at your pace.  For some people, our time together is brief (maybe 3 or 4 sessions).  Others prefer to work over a longer time period to reflect on growth and progress in a safe and supportive space and be supported to integrate positive changes into their life.

No two treatments are the same.  Every aspect of our time together is tailored to you as an individual and this is something we agree together according to your needs and your budget.  I offer free consultations by telephone or online to ensure we are a good fit for each other.  I am very happy to explain what our work together might involve before you commit to a first appointment.

How much does it cost?

This program is charged at my standard session rate:

First session (up to 90 minutes) £95 between 9am and 5pm (£85 after 6pm and weekends)

Further sessions (up to 60 minutes) £75 between 9am and 5pm (£80 after 6pm and weekends)

If you’ve been hurt in the past then you deserve a better future.

I hope you will decide that “the time is now” to begin the process of living the life you want and deserve.  I understand it can feel difficult to seek out help, but please do drop me a line or give me a call.  I’m very happy to explore how this program could help you before you commit to making an appointment.
